* A brown-striped badger walks up to the podium-desk-whatever. She has gray eyes, but nothing else is really noticeable, because she's trapped behind a deskthingy.
When she talks, you notice that her voice is a bit raspy, like she has a cold.*
*Hullo! I'm Tinsy Stormsight......the weather-crazy one.....anyway....bear with me, I've got a sore throat and cold...so, yes.
This is my Spelling and Grammar class. Be quiet and listen; questions come later.*
--On the Importance of Proper Grammar and Spelling--
Grammar and spelling are two important things you can't live without, not in real life, and definately not while Rping.
No-one wants to read posts by -- much less RP with -- someone who regularly posts things like this:
icharg at obiwan wihtmi bastrrazd and shootat him
Someone like that is not only annoying, but an eyesore to the rping site.
And you'll never get and respect from veteran Rpers -- Blade (who usually plays Obi-Wan in Star Wars roleplays) will never respond to that; neither will anyone else. You'll be ingnored, most likely. You don't want that, do you?
I didn't think so.
And that's why proper spelling and grammar are important!
On Grammar
Here are some helpful guidelines for good grammar -- my teaching isn't good enough for a proper English class. (Not to mention my limited computer time, but we won't go into that.....)
1. If in doubt, consult an English/Launguage Arts (?) textbook, obtained from school.
If you don't happen to have one on hand, do your best.
2. The Shift Key (and hence, the capital letter), is your friend!
The Shift key (situated on both sides of your keyboard), when pushed down at the same time as a letter key, will make that letter a capital (uppercase) one!
Then, you can capitalize things like the beginning or a sentence, a name, I , etc.
However, don't just randomly push Shift down in the middle of a word or sentence (Oops! The cat stepped on my Shift Key!) -- that's worse that not using it at all! (aka, My Lightsaber for a Shift Key.)
3. The Paraghraph is also your friend!
Ever encountered those long, dragging messages that you have to read but don't want to because they're so long? Guess what! A paragraph can make those seem a lot shorter, even though the aren't really!
This is handy if you yourself, have to write a long message, because people will be more inclined to read it!
Cool, huh?
4. Caps Lock is (probably) not your friend!
*TIPTOES INTO THE KITCHEN AND WHISPERS *SHHH, WATCH FOR THE FRIAR.*
This message makes you think that the character is shouting, doesn't it?
That what typing everything in capital letters (aka, The Gerbil is Standing On My Shift Key!), achieved by pressing the key labeled "Caps Lock", means: The character is shouting. Don't do that unless you mean to be shouting - you don't yell during a kitchen raid with the Friar around.
On Spelling
Spelling is also improtant. A good rule to remember is If in doubt, consult a spellcheck (They come with word processers; just type the word in and spellcheck it, it'll tell you the correct spelling.)
However, if, by some freak of chance, you don't have a spellcheck, putting (sp?) after the supposedly misspelled word is good -- either someone will correct you, or it'll be ignored.
However, don't just misspell like this, not even bothering to check and fix obvious mistakes:
I ryd mi stalyun aftr the enemee, draing mi sord.
Not good, you'll never get respect from a good roleplayer that say! (Not to mention, no-one can read that ;D )
Ok -- I think I've covered everything! But if not, PM me and let me know so I can include it!
